A thousand splendid Suns

A thousand splendid Suns by Khaleed Hosseini

My Experience with the book:

When I first started this book I was actually very excited but guess what happened I had literally five big meltdowns and I threw the book away out the window twice and it was horrible.

Did you guys know that Afghanistan was not a free country?
until 2001 because that’s what the book suggests and guess what I was born in 2001 and if I were born in Afghanistan I probably would have died because women were not provided with the facility of giving birth because there were no women’s
hospitals. Women were treated like garbage and nothing more there were no women’s rights whatsoever.

A woman born was considered cursed and if someone gave birth to a little baby girl and not a boy then it was actually the worst thing a woman could do to her husband. Even talking about this book makes me so mad. Khaled Hosseini is a great author who wrote the kite runner, the best-selling book of all time.

About the book:

The book focuses on two main lead characters that are women. The first one is Mariam, we learn about Mariam she’s actually called a harami because her father had an affair with her mother and never married her but that’s how she was born so all her life she’s been called harami and she lived in her cobla for 15 years without seeing the outside world and what it’s like.

After Mariam’s mom commits suicide her father the one she worshiped the most decides that it’s time for her to get married and that’s the last she will ever speak to her father and she realizes how naïve she was to think that a man will care about her even if it’s her father.
The dentist is married to the worst villain that could possibly exist and his name is Rasheed. At first, I thought he was a good guy because he really did care for Mariam and showed her the world that she has never seen before with her cobla and
everything. But after Mariam got pregnant and she lost her baby he started treating her like shit and it was actually very common in this book because women were supposed to be treated like shit which made me so mad I can’t even
explain. That’s when I gave up on the book I was so done I decided I don’t want to read it anymore because I was so done. DONE!

After a long break from the book:

I read seven different beautiful novels after I decided to take a break from thousand splendid Suns. But obviously, I had to finish the book because let’s face it.I loved Mariam and I wanted to know what was going to happen to her and spoiler alert she dies. Keep your hands together another big book throw is coming.

I was introduced to a new beautiful character called Laila she was the second lead for this book. At first, I was bored because I wanted to know about Mariam the girl I really loved and I wanted to know what was going to happen but suddenly the book decided that half of the book is about Laila and I couldn’t skip it because they connected the dots in the end. As I started reading the chapter more and more I started to fall in love with Laila she was this beautiful soul, she was amazing and she had a great life until well she got pregnant.

Laila had a beautiful boyfriend named Tariq, and well one thing led to another they kissed, and slowly after that Laila got pregnant. There was a huge war going on in Afghanistan and everybody was dying. there were very few people
that were alive so like everybody else Laila’s parents decided that it was time to move to Pakistan to start a new chapter. Laila was very excited about this because Tarik and his parents had also moved to Pakistan, so they were gonna reunite and
their love could grow or so she thought.

The moving day came and they were packing and everything was going great Laila was very excited she didn’t know
that she was pregnant at the time and a shot was taken at their home and only Laila survived. Her parents died Rashid was the one who rescued her and brought her back to his place.

The Turnaround:

This is how Laila’s life turned upside down. And this is also how she met Mariam, Rasheed’s wife. So this is how the dots were connected but at this point, I had read half the book about Laila so I didn’t really care for Mariam much because
now I wanted to know what was going on with Laila and what was going to happen to her now I had all sorts of questioning ahead so I didn’t really care about Mariam until this point. A random informant comes and tells Laila that Tariq has also died
in the crossfire so basically, Laila had no one left Rasheed proposes to marry Laila and she says yes because now she knows that she’s pregnant. And a similar thing happens again just like it happened with Mariam. He treats her like a queen and everything is going well until he finds out that she’s pregnant and then she gives birth to a baby girl Aziza which is a crime for Rasheed because he only wanted a son. Slowly Mariam and Layla come close because of Aziza and they raise her together and it’s beautiful except Rasheed keeps trying to literally kill them. Then after a while, Laila gives birth to Rasheed’s boy.

Finally some good news:

Near the end, we find out that Tariq is actually not dead and Rasheed set some informant up so that he could marry Laila Oh my God this is just so sad I don’t wanna talk about it anymore. Tariq shows up and everything goes to hell for Mariam. Rasheed starts beating up Layla and she’s literally about to die and Mariam decides she’s gonna kill Rasheed and she actually does kill him and that’s how Mariam is sentenced to death because she killed her husband because he was going to kill Laila.

Can you believe this government? Anyway that’s how Mariam dies and there’s the happy ending Laila always wanted with Tariq I feel so sad for Mariam but I’m also happy for Laila. I don’t wanna talk about this book anymore I am never going to read it again it’s so sad I cried throughout the book like in the end chapters I was bawling and bawling and bawling my eyes out I
don’t wanna talk about it anymore and that’s how the book ends goodbye good day I hate you Khaleed Hosseini for making me cry so much. Mariam dies with pride. Laila gets her happy ending. It’s epic.

A thousand splendid Suns by Khaleed Hosseini summary

I just wanna say how much I love this book and how much it affected me as a person it was an amazing book I really really do not regret reading it this is one of my favorite books I hate it but I love it at the same time. Mariam died knowing
that she was loved and she will be missed. Laila loved Mariam more than Mariam’s mom loved her. Even writing this is making me so sad I’m crying right now writing this. I’m still going through with it even though I read it like a month ago. And I love it so much. I only skimmed through the entire book, I only mentioned the major events that happen but to go through the entire process of emotional roller coaster you have to read the book so please I recommend reading the book it’s so epic, you will understand how epic this story is once you read it.
