What you might not know is what to eat and what foods to avoid with Trulicity to keep your blood glucose in check. Foods to avoid with Trulicity Here I’m giving some good suggestions:

What Foods to Avoid with Trulicity?

There are no specific foods that you need to avoid while taking Trulicity. However, your goal is to be as healthy as possible.

I don’t like to use the word “avoid” as I feel most foods can be included in your eating plan, but I will give you some foods you should be very mindful of eating:

#Food 1: Added Sugars

sugars also show up in places you may not even think there is sugar like in crackers, nut butter, bread, tomato sauce, and non-dairy milk. The problem is when the amount and frequency of sugar that is eaten or drunk become excessive and it replaces nutrient-dense foods.

Finding added sugars is easy! Just check the Nutrition Facts Panel. Under “carbohydrates” is a line for “Added Sugars.”

Check out, “What’s the difference between added sugar & Natural sugar?”

-The differences between added sugar & natural sugar

#) Natural sugars: Are naturally occurring in whole foods like fruit that come with added health benefits like fiber and antioxidants.

#) Added Sugar: Added sugars are added during the processing of packaged foods and do not provide any nutrients (besides calories).

Here are some pictures of Added Sugars VS Natural Sugars.

 #Food 2: Alcohol

Most persons with diabetes can enjoy a moderate amount of alcohol without effects.

Alcohol may cause both hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) for those with diabetes depending on the amount and the type of alcohol you drink.

If you drink alcohol on an empty stomach, it may cause hypoglycemia. Alcoholic beverages prepared with juice or sweetened beverages may cause hyperglycemia. To be on the safe side, check your blood sugar before and after and drink.

Moderate alcohol use for healthy adults generally means up to one drink a day for women and up to two drinks a day for men.

Examples of one drink include:

Beer: 12 fluid ounces (355 milliliters)

Wine: 5 fluid ounces (148 milliliters).

#Food 3: Trans Fats & Saturated Fats.

Trans Fats/Saturated fats are found in the skin of animals, butter, cheese, extra fat of meats, palm oil, coconut oil, and partially hydrogenated oils. Eating excess saturated fats/trans fats may increase your risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Define Trulicity?

Trulicity is the medicine prescribed to the patient with type-2 diabetes. It improves the blood sugar level and reduces the risk of major cardiovascular events including nonfatal stroke, nonfatal heart attack, cardiovascular death, and other incidents that cause damage to the heart muscle. Taking with proper diet and exercise can see the good results of Trulicity which also helps in losing weight.

Trulicity is the brand name that contains the drug Dulaglutide and is prescribed in the form of an injection. It is a non-insulin drug. A patient who is prescribed Trulicity has to inject this drug once a week. It can be injected under the stomach, thigh, or upper arm.

What does it do to the body?

How does trulicity work? This non-insulin drug is an agonist of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor which enhances the activity of the GLP-1 receptor.

It is similar to the hormone GLP-1 which is secreted naturally in the human body to stimulate insulin secretion. It regulates blood sugar levels. The Trulicity drug also works in the same way the GLP-1 hormone does.

When the Trulicity is injected, it binds with the GLP-1 receptor and helps in the releasing of insulin from the beta cells of the pancreas. It is available in 0.75mg dose in the form of a single-use disposable pen.

  • It reduces the glucagon secretion to control glucose production by the liver.
  • It increases intracellular second messengers such as cAMP.

While in this medication there is a chance for some side effects including stomach pain, indigestion, loss of appetite, vomiting, and bloating.

  • White foods: White foods like white bread, pasta, and white rice have high sugar content which can increase blood sugar levels. Whole grains such as whole-grain bread, oatmeal, brown wild rice, and barley are the better choice than white rice and have less effect on blood sugar.

  • Packaged snacks: Whatever packaged snacks, all are made from sugar, salt, white flour, and preservatives. They can give taste but they are full of trans fat which can increase bad cholesterol and reduce good cholesterol, which can increase the risk of heart diseases. Type-2 diabetes patients should look for alternatives for these. Nuts, seeds, avocado olive, and canola are the best choice over packed snacks.

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including slow/irregular heartbeat, signs of kidney problems (such as a change in the amount of urine), or vision changes.

Vomiting/diarrhea that doesn’t stop may result in dehydration and kidney problems. Contact your doctor promptly if you notice any symptoms of dehydration, such as unusual decreased urination, unusual dry mouth/thirst, fast heartbeat, or dizziness/lightheadedness.

Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including signs of pancreatitis (such as nausea/vomiting that doesn’t stop, severe stomach/abdominal/back pain).

Although dulaglutide by itself usually does not cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), low blood sugar may occur if this drug is prescribed with other diabetes medications. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the dose(s) of your other diabetes medication(s) needs to be lowered.

Drinking large quantities of alcohol, not getting enough calories from food, or doing unusually heavy exercise may also lead to low blood sugar. Symptoms may include sudden sweating, shaking, fast heartbeat, hungerblurred vision, dizziness, or tingling hands/feet. It is a good habit to carry glucose tablets or gel to treat low blood sugar.

If you don’t have these reliable forms of glucose, rapidly raise your blood sugar by eating a quick source of sugar such as table sugar, honey, or candy, or drinking fruit juice or non-diet soda. Tell your doctor right away about the reaction and the use of this product. To help prevent low blood sugar, eat meals on a regular schedule, and do not skip meals. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out what you should do if you miss a meal.

Symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, and fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor right away. Your dosage may need to be increased.
